The United Kingdom consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The total United Kingdom is twice the size of New York State. The countries of the United Kingdom are ruled by the British Royal family. The British Isles have a long and fascinating history.

Of the 851 world wide properties selected by the World Heritage List for their outstanding universal value, 26 are in the United Kingdom;
