Iran Nuclear Program - is America Creating the Terror Hype?

After the 9-11 tragedy in 2001, American President George W. Bush declared an overarching global war against terrorism. In his controversial January 2002 State of the Nation Address Mr. Bush cited an enumeration of countries he called "axis of evil". These countries allegedly harbored or sponsored terrorist groups and sought or held weapons of mass destruction in defiance of the United States and its allies. Included among those referenced nations was the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Since then, America has waged extensive armed campaigns in the Middle East against the nations belonging to the new axis. In pursuit of the Al Qaeeda, which claimed responsibility for the New York World Trade Center attacks, the USA invaded Afghanistan in October 2001. The US forces backed by an international alliance, which included Great Britain and France, at that point in time, effectively brought down the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan which is said to have supported the Al Qaeeda group.

Two years later, America waged another war, this time against the regime of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. To justify the offensive versus Iraq, the United States used the claim that the government of the Iraqi dictator possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The United Nations however did not sanction an assault on Iraq and to that; the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan acknowledged that the America was in violation of the UN Charter. Without support from the UN, Bush called on other countries to join a "coalition of the willing" and rally behind this latest US crusade on the war of terror. Four years into the war in Iraq, fact-finding missions have yet to unearth any evidence of Saddam's alleged WMD stockpile. Thousands of troops from the international community who lent support to the USA-led war have since withdrawn to their respective homelands.
