Dekalb Regional Medical Center is located in Fort Payne, Alabama. I gave birth to both of my daughters, had my gall bladder removed, and had my tubes tied at this hospital. I have received very poor patient care at Dekalb Regional Medical Center each time I had to check in. A lack of staffing and a lack of training appears to be the problem. When you arrive at Dekalb Regional Medical Center you will go through the appropriate tests to determine what is ailing you. The nurses are slow and when they do get to you, they suddenly seem in a hurry. The majority of the nurses are very impersonal and unconcerned about your sickness. To these nurses, nursing is just a job and you are a thing, not a person.
Overnight stays are a nightmare and you can bet that you will receive poor patient care. It is best to have a friend or relative stay with you or you will have to fend for yourself. Having a visitor stay with you is not possible unless you have a private room. Just because you have medical insurance doesn't guarantee you a private room. My fiancé has a great insurance plan and had to be put in a shared room when he had his appendix removed. I had packed an overnight bag with plans to stay by his side until he left the hospital, but was told that I would have to leave if another patient had to be admitted to his room. Who is getting the private rooms?
If you are staying overnight at the Dekalb Regional Medical Center then chances are that you will be on pain medication. Once you are in your room, your nurse will come and take your blood pressure and temperature. You will asked if you need anything. Don't let this fool you. You will get to see this hospital's poor patient care at it's finest.
Once your nurse leaves, don't expect to see him/her again for a long time. My fiancé had to have a tube put down his throat during his appendectomy which made it very fry and sore. His nurse told him that she would bring him some apple juice in a minute. He was extremely thirsty and the promise of cold fresh apple juice made him even thirstier. After an hour of waiting for his nurse to return with his beverage, he couldn't hardly stand it anymore.
