Mp3 players in today's marketplace appear to be a dime a dozen. There is typically little to differentiate between the players other than performance and personal preference. The main aspect of a player that should be considered when shopping for Digital Audio Players (DAS), other wise referred to as Mp3 players, is sound quality and price. Knowing that this isn't always the case, I'll run through options, features and things to keep in mind when searching for your digital player.

The other functions that come with many units are not used as often as the main appeal, which is of course its music playback ability. This should take higher importance than whether or not it also displays pictures or contains an fm tuner. However we always want more in our society and why not? Players today come with video playback and much more. It is now becoming and all in one entertainment system in the palm of your hand.

Some features, however I have yet to understand the great importance. Pictures on an Ipod or digital player really boggles my mind, sure its nice to have but what is the real appeal to having your pictures with you at all times. Maybe if you just had a baby and you cannot contain yourself but isn't that what email is for? I have yet to see people rant and rave about how much they love looking at the same photographs daily on their commute to work. Sure it is a neat feature to come with a digital audio player but really doesn't wow many people. Also many players do not allow you to look through photos while the songs are playing.

FM tuners are another feature that lures people in as well. The range on the fm tuners isn't as great as you would think. If you thought it was going to be great I am sorry to let you down on this. Indoors it is a bit shoddy, but who really wants to listen to static plagued fm radio when you have digital music at your fingertips? Some players do make the fm tuner cool by allowing you to save a song you are listening to on your mp3 player.

I was told not to buy a Zune but I didn't bother to ask why ...I knew it wouldn't be something I'd buy anyway. I use an ultra portable computer to play audio books around the house...it has a flash drive with the benefits you mention. The thing could be dropped down the stairs and still work...at least according to YouTube. :-)

the zune isnt great. it has some major flaws. like how sometimes the screen will just crack on it own without any dropping or hitting. and even it you do drop it half the screen can go black. i would have liked to do some more research.
