It is astonishing that our bills continue to climb here in the south during June, July, and August but it is not any hotter now than it was two months ago but our bill is $100.00 more than it was then.
There is a number of things that we can try to help with our kilowatt usage. Making sure that your air conditioner filter is clean and changed every 30 days is big help not only to making the life of your air conditioner longer but helping out your wallet this summer.
If you have been in a Cracker Barrel you may or may not have noticed their solar blinds they have hanging in their huge windows. They are a mesh type material. They can be hung behind existing blinds or drapes. It helps block out harmful and hot UV Rays and an added benefit that is really useful, is that you can see out of these blinds during the day and anyone on the outside cannot see in. I am a very private person but I do not like to keep the shades shut everyday. I love to open the drapes when I wake up, especially on a bright beautiful summer morning. I have a beautiful pool in the backyard that I love to look at but by opening the drapes you are letting the summer heat in and the air conditioner pays the price for it. With solar mesh blinds it helps this dilemma. I purchased mine at American Blind & Wallpaper on sale for around $40.00 for a medium sized window. With the amount of money I am saving from heat coming in and cold air going out, it pays for itself in a month or two. Plus I gain valuable privacy during the day. At night time you can see in with the solar mesh shades so I shut the drapes when the sun goes down.
