In just the past couple of weeks, we have seen some very high profile product recalls, many of them food products and many of them from China. There was an additive found in dog food, a warning about seafood from China salmonella in a snack food, and botulism in canned meat products and the latest, a warning about ginger imported from China that was contaminated by an insecticide.

Now the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that one of the most popular and famous toy companies, Fisher Price, which is a division of Mattel Toys, has issued a voluntary recall involving some 967,000 units. The toys were manufactured in China and it was found that the exterior paint contains an unhealthy level of lead.

The toys all have themes such as Sesame Street and Dora the Explorer. There is a total of about 90 different items

Make careful note of the exact details of the products involved. All of the recalled items were manufactured between April 19, 2007 and July 6, 2007 and were sold either alone or as part of sets. All of the toys carry the Fischer Price name and have a date code between 109-7LF and 187-7LF. This could be marked either on the item or on the packaging.

The items were sold at retail stores all across the country from May 2007 through August 2007 and the prices range between $5 and $40.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has a complete list of the products involved on their web site.

If you have any of the affected products, take them away from the children immediately, and contact Fisher Price either through their web site or by their toll-free number (800) 916-4498 and you will get instructions on how to return the product to Fisher Price. In return you will receive a voucher for the price of the toy to be used to purchase another toy of your choice.
