I Believe in God: Let Me Explain Why
Embed:
As a young girl, my family made sure that I attended Sunday school and the religious recess program through our school, at that point I simply believed, because that's what I was told to do. It was as if the stories read to me from the bible were more like the fairytales in my story books. The people and places were just as unfamiliar as Oz to my little mind, but as I said, I recited my prayers each night and believed only because it was what I was supposed to do.
Once I reached the "helm" of my adolescent years, I was sure that there was nothing above, how could there possibly be another world beyond what we can see and feel? Of course at this time I was just full of rebellion anyway.
There was no way I was actually going to agree with something my parents said, how un-cool would that have been? By the time I started college, if anyone asked if I believed in God I would say no, just as simple as that, because at that point NOT believing was definitely cooler than believing.
The day I had my first child, a whole new world opened up for me. I was laying on the operating table (I had an emergency c-section) after they removed by beautiful baby girl and I heard the doctor say the word Hemorrhage...I remember being so scared, I started to panic and because of the spinal block I had received, I was supposed to take short breaths, but because I was panicking I was drawing in deep breaths which sent me into a full blown panic attack.
As I was laying there yelling to them that I couldn't breathe, I prayed to God to let me live, because it was the only thing I felt I could do at that point. Well, Guess What, I'm here, thanks to God, a wonderful doctor and some kind blood donor, but I'm alive and since that day I have thanked God every day that I am!
You can have your debates on whether or not there is a God, that's fine, it's your right, but I will teach my children that there is a God, that he is kind and good, because even when people disagree, I truly feel it's better to believe in something than to believe in nothing at all!
