So you start to pack for your family weekend camping trip. You get your vehicle all loaded up with food, sleeping bags, and camp chairs and lastly you remember to grab those darn roasting sticks. They are always a pain to pack because the ends are so grimy and dirty. Plus they are dangerous with their pointy metal ends.

We use to simply wrap ours with Zip-ock bags and ties. Of course, they often poked through the bag and the bag was always being thrown away. The Ziploc bag often appeared to be "trash" since it was all grimy from fire soot and caked on burnt food. This is when my husband had said "Enough!" He then decided he would make a container to hold these dangerous sticks before someone lost an eye!

Here are the steps for making this quick, easy, and affordable container for your roasting sticks.

1. You will need to purchase a PVC pipe that fits the length and width of your roasting sticks. In our case, we have large roasting sticks that we purchased from Walmart that are 4 feet long. So we purchased one 4" PVC 3000# Crush Drain Pipe 4 feet long. You also need two end caps to fit this pipe. Therefore we needed two 4" PVC end caps. Next pick up about 4 feet of 3/8" nylon rope, two 3/8" fender washers, and a can of general purpose PVC cement.

2. Once you have all your pieces you can begin assembling the container. Place one end cap on your pipe and glue with PVC cement. Once this is dry drill two holes about six inches from each end of the 4 foot pipe. Slip your rope through these holes, add on your washer and make a tight knot. This forms your handle. I then recommend you draw arrows with a permanent marker pointing to the end cap that is removable.

Slide your roasting sticks in your container, place on the unglued end cap and carry the container over your shoulder like you do your camping chairs. You might also want to write your name on the container. If you would like to see more detailed pictures of this process visit www.stretchadime.blogspot.com.

3. Now take your family, your chairs, your marshmallows and your roasting stick container and head to your nearest fire pit! Have fun!
