Marshfield, WI Clinc and Saint Joseph's Hospital is a City Within a City

Marshfield, Wisconsin is only a city with about 25,000 people in it. But for a city that size we have an enormous hospital and clinic located here. People from all over the United States come to Marshfield for health care. The people in and around Marshfield are fortunate to have such a great medical complex close by.

Back in 1916 the Marshfield Clinic started out when 6 area physicians got together and formed the clinic. Between the 6 of them, they figured that they had enough medical knowledge to make a go of it. Now the Clinic has become one of the largest private practices in the United States.

The clinic is also well known for all their research programs. The National Farm Medicine Center is one of the longest running and most successful research centers in the country. It has been around since 1981. They study farmer's lung diseases. The research that was done there actually led to the blood test that detects exposures to microbes that cause the diseases. In the end it has helped thousands of farmers.

The personalized Medicine Research Center studies an individual's genetic profile and how they can approach treatments and detections of diseases with that person. They had 18,000 participants in 2002 that made it the largest population based genetic research projects.

The Marshfield Epidemiologic Research Center does epidemiologic research. Their research has led to a lot of advances in the improvement of medical care and public health policies. They also research other subjects like obesity and diabetes.

The clinic also has the Biomedical Informatics Research Center and the Mammalian Genotyping Service Research Center. The clinic is always making advances in research from all different types of subjects and they continue to keep on progressing.
