Some nights it seems harder for you to get to sleep then other nights are. Maybe something you did during the day made you feel energized and kept you awake longer then you would have liked. Or possibly you didn't do enough active things during the day to make you sleepy. Here are some tips to help you get better sleep at night.

Tobacco, alcohol and caffeine during the day can interrupt your sleep at night. Try to stay away from anything with nicotine, alcohol or caffeine in them and it will help you to sleep better at night.

A schedule is good for small children to keep a regular sleep routine. Adults can also benefit from following a schedule. It is good to get to bed about the same time every night and get up about the same time every morning. Even when you have a day off it is good to stay on that schedule so that your body gets use to sleeping and waking up at the same time every day.

Exercise is important for a healthy sleep. Regular exercise helps you get a good nights sleep. Be sure to stop exercising at least three hours before your bed time so your body has plenty of time to relax.

Meditation helps you relax and get to sleep. By adding some time to meditate you can relax and get in the mind to fall asleep. It is especially good to meditate just before going to bed.

Try to keep from taking a nap during the day. A nap can make it more difficult to fall asleep at night. If you are having a really hard time staying awake when you should be awake then limit your nap time to less them thirty minutes.

Avoid eating any heavy meals. A heavy meal can keep you up at night especially if you eat it shortly before going to bed. A lighter meal throughout the day is a better way to eat when you are seeking more sleep.

Keep your bed room a place of rest and relaxation. Don't use your bedroom to do anything requiring a lot of thought. Keep your bedroom a sanctuary for rest and relaxation. Make your bedroom as relaxing and calming as possible. It is a good idea to keep the television and radio out of the bedroom as well.

Sometimes I can't get to sleep because my mind is spinning with ideas for articles. I usually write at night until my eyes are too tired to do any more, then I need to go to bed.,lol...my mind is still stimulated.

Great Article and Tips. I have a relative tho who can't sleep without the TV being on. They have to put it on a 30 minute timer EVERY night before they can drift off to dreamland. What is funny to me is they can sleep thru the sound and light from the screen but can't if the street light from outside shines in the room or if kids are outside palying their radio. LOL.
