I take several medications that are called maintenance drugs. These are medications that keep me functioning. I have clinical depression and asthma, both which I treat with meds. One too many times I have my meds changed because the insurance company requested it. This to me is insane and so frustrating. People who do not take depression meds might not understand the magnitude of a medication switch. It takes me days to a couple of weeks for my body to adjust and the meds the insurance company picked were not as beneficial as the doctor's choice.

A lump swells up in my throat just thinking about it. Why should anyone's quality of life be affected negatively because an insurance company wants a cheaper drug prescribed? I begged on the phone trying to get them to understand and someone who doesn't have a medical background should not be able to make such requests. Recently the insurance company decided they were not going to cover the extended release caplets for Wellbutrin (depression med)! This might not seem like a big deal but it has made my life hell. The extended release meds release a little bit of the medication at a time, unlike having it released all at once. This meant I could actually work a full day and be productive. Instead at about 1pm or 2pm in the afternoon, I am done. At the end of the day I am not the person I was in the morning. This has affected my job, social life, and home life. I want to be the woman I am in the morning all day, is that so much to ask for?
