Airline Review: Express Jet Airlines
Embed:
Express Jet Airlines is one of the newest low cost carriers to fly the skies of the United States. While offering low cost flights, the airline has a focus on serving cities that aren't major airline hubs, therefore offering somewhat unique service. The airline features a comfortable ride in new aircraft, and offers reasonable in-flight entertainment, XM satellite radio. While, the aircraft that Express Jet flies are relatively new, they are somewhat smaller than what would be expected on mainline airlines. Express Jet operates Embraer aircraft, notably the ERJ series. These planes hold a maximum of 50 passengers; fly at close to 600 miles per hour, and up to 2,000 miles. Seats in the aircraft are four abreast, two on each side of the aisle. The seats are leather, but defiantly are not the most comfortable in the airline industry.
Like nearly every airline in the world, you do have the ability to close the window shade if you so desire, and each seat comes with a tray table, attached to the seat sitting in front of you. The overhead baggage bins aren't overly spacious, but as long as your items fit in the test bin at check-in, space can be found to accommodate your item. Each seat comes with the ability to listen to XM satellite radio. While this sounds like a small add-on, it could make the difference in your two hour flight in the small aircraft. Just remember, don't leave home without your headphones, because onboard, they can be a little bit pricey for cheap headphones.
The idea behind a low cost carrier is exactly that, low cost. Therefore, anywhere costs can be cut becomes an advantage to the airline. The less an airline can charge for a ticket usually means that you should expect less service on the flight. Express Jet does offer some in-flight services; just don't expect to get a five course dinner on your flight from Kansas City to Austin.
