I think books should not be banned for adults, children maybe, but banning books for all is very unrealistic. If there are movies that should be banned, but are not, why should books? There are Video games that should be off the market, but they're not banned either. So I think books should be left alone. If someone goes ahead and publishes them, we should just use our best judgment, and read reviews to see if it is really worth our time. If parents instill certain values in their children, then most likely they won't even be tempted to read the wrong type of books in the first place. So here are my top ten picks for the best banned books.

1. The Age Of Reason By Thomas Paine
An 18th century book that was banned in the United Kingdom for blasphemy. Way obvious

2.Animal Farm By George Orwell
I never read the book, but I watched the movie and I loved it. It's a movie where the pigs, representing Bolshevik revolutionaries, chase away the humans and make the farm a place where all animals are made equal. Yeah, right. Watch the movie and you'll see the amazing satire portrayed about Stalin. Amazing film.

3. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
Again, I never read the book, but I saw the movie. What's wrong with black horses? They are very beautiful. The book was banned in South Africa because of the word 'black.' Crazy to me.

4.The Bible by Various authors
I should have put this first. Different versions of the Bible was banned by Catholics, and Muslim's. I guess we know who's going to be 'banned' in the end. The Bible shouldn't even be on the banned books list!

5.Catcher In The Rye By J.D. Salinger
I never read this book either. It was banned in many U.S. schools and libraries because of sex and immoral doings. Funny, that those things are alright to read now, isn't it?

6.The Last Temptation Of Christ by Nikos Kazantzakis
It never fails to amaze me, how many people have the audacity to say anything they want about God and Jesus, and expect to get away with it. I never read the book, or watched the stupid movie. It was filled with blasphemy and how it showed Jesus. Pure fiction that no one should have even published.

Did You Know?
The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss was banned

Whoops! Animal Farm is an allegory-not a satire. Many things I write are what I review, so this is what "someone else said" and I add what I know if I've seen the movie-guess I have to check out my sources! A few of these books here I wouldn't care to read anyway. There are a lot of books I left out of the list which were simply horrifying. Our Public library has a Banned Book Week each year, where authors read a few pages out of the banned books. I thought it would be interesting to find out about other ones.

I read Catcher in the Rye, and hated it. I don't think that it should be banned, but if you didn't read it, you're not missing anything.

Um first of all, I agree with you but you haven't even read most of these books, you've only seen the movies. Also you made a lot of mistakes, for example Animal Farm is an allegory not a satire. The don't go after Narnia because Narnia is a very Christian book the whole Aslan thing is supposed to represent Jesus

Interesting article...even more interesting is that I read two of those books for school! Catcher in the Rye (which I hated; it bored me to tears. And all that immoral stuff? Not really that bad, honestly. No worse than we see on TV!), and Animal Farm (LOVED it. Absolutely adored that book, great social commentary!). And of course, I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. I wonder about the Christians who are so violently opposed to it; do they go after Narnia and 95% of Disney films as well?
