On her debut album "9 Lives" Spanish-English crossover artist Kat De Luna showcases her craft. Most of the songs are geared to her audience a hybrid between Spanish and English and they are generally dance tracks. The soon to be twenty year old hailing from the Dominican Republic, shows off that she has all the right moves but will all of the dance songs on the album creative a repetitive listening experience? The first single off of "9 Lives" is the up-tempo hit "Whine Up" featuring Elephant Man. On the song Kat goes back forth between singing in English and Spanish. The song is catchy and fills a void currently in the marketplace. Elephant Man adds his traditional high energy approach and the song is a surefire hit.
The second single off of "9 Lives" is "Am I Dreaming." The beat is very similar to most of the commercial Spanish music on the market. On the song Kat's voice is reminiscent of the late Selena. That is the best part of the song however as it is not really memorable.
"Love Me, Leave Me" is one of the few ballads on the album. The production is competent enough. The song strongly bites the feel of Rihanna's "Unfaithful." This is the best vocal performance on the album as Kat effortlessly soars over the stirring strings and piano rifts.
"In The End" is another up-tempo track featuring various synthetic techno leads over a heavy guitar beat. The song is another that just doesn't sound quite right. "Love Confusion" features some live percussion and similar synthetic harps as Lionel Richie's "I Call It Love." The song isn't bad it just isn't memorable. "Enjoy Saying Goodbye" is another song which doesn't really catch on but features an impressive vocal delivery.
