Over two thousand five hundred years ago Plato the Greek philosopher remarked that democracy dies of a surfeit of freedom. In a democracy the son refuses to obey the parents, the student refuses to obey the teacher and the contagion spreads that the horse begins to drive the wayfarer from the road. This view of Plato on democracy holds good today and is relevant when we examine democracies of recent origin, which are not even a century old. The surfeit of freedom has pushed into positions of power drainpipe politicians (DPP) who don't have any vision surpassing even that of a lizard or cockroach. They believe in the motto "self before service" and are not used to positive thinking for the ultimate benefit of society.

DPPs have learnt the wrong side of all philosophies with perversions. In work they practice the culture of the vulture. In leadership they are led and are unable to inspire the masses with lofty ideals worth pursuing. The leadership they manifest often results in death and destruction. They believe in having objectives but based on self-interest and embezzlement. Of course, occasionally they reveal smattering of a few concepts in management and economics.

Management by objectives means to them their own personal objectives. DPPs believe in achieving results but in the wrong direction. They do not have any concept of productive resource utilization. They act in such a way resources are destroyed. Examples are many. Destruction of public property during agitations is one such instance. They believe in management by creating nuisance. The target of nuisance is the public and others who do not come within their party fold.
