Alecia was not an ordinary teen at Central Bucks High School in the mid 1990s.The year was 1996, and Alecia was a junior. While most of the kids were rocking to the Gin Blossoms and Go Go Dolls, Alecia dug anything from Monica, Brandy and Pearl Jam and Blues Traveler. Yep, she wanted to run around or away, too, just like John Popper's diddy.
She was a girl with pretty features, she kept her hair short, bright blond , but unkempt looking. Earrings went up and down her one ear and you could see her tattoos on her upper arms when she wore a sleeveless shirt in the spring and summer. She also wore sunglasses in school, until a teacher told her to take them off. She wasn't popular with the kids, but let me tell you, some of the male teachers let her keep the shades on and were overly friendly. You do the math.
I too, was a junior and the only thing her and I had in common, was our love for Blues Traveler. Man, that John Popper plays a mean harmonica.
We were at a party at a friends house one spring weekend, when we bumped into each other. We exchanged pleasantries and I moved on to my buddies. She had a slight reputation of being a slut, but I did not hold that against her. Or believe it. She was anti-establishment, definitely not a Conservative. Still, she thought Clinton was kind of an ass. She was neither Republican or Democrat; she dissed Clinton in political science class we had together.
I was talking sports and women with my buddies at the party, with each old us taking the lead conversely, when Alecia bumped into me. She kind of spilled her coke on me; I detected rum, but not overly so.
"Hey, sorry, man," she said. "Hey this party is beat; let's take a walk."
My one buddy kinda low-fived me for scoring such a crazy, but attractive girl. He didn't believe the rumors either. Or, better, yet, care.
As we approached the end of the street, we approached a park. A slight hill was in the distance and you could hear the babbling brook. We sat down and talked for a good 20 minutes or so. I wasn't the most popular kid in school, but she dug that I was not a football geek or a computer nerd.
