To lose weight with walking you will need a good location. Any location that will have some hills and some level spots will be ideal. The variance of the hills, which will get your heart beating faster and burning more calories, then the level area will give you a slight break till the next incline. You will need good shoes to walk to protect your feet and will keep you walking. If your shoes hurt your feet you will not walk as much as if you felt good.

You won't want to walk 5 miles the first few times you go out walking you will be sore the next day, and will give up walking quickly. Using a pedometer will help you stay motivated. Getting a pedometer is a great way to keep track of how many steps you walk every day. To lose weight you want to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. I just started walking on the treadmill about a month ago. I have lost about 4 pounds, have increased energy, and it has reduced my stress level. I feel gulty when I miss a day.
