Carle Place High School, located on Cherry Lane in the town of Carle Place is not a school of great size, but is of great heart. Primarily serving teenagers of Carle Place, as well as teens in parts of Mineola and Westbury, students at Carle Place High School enjoy many advantages that students at other high schools simply do not have. For one, class sizes are small, allowing for teachers to pay close attention to the progress of each and every student. The classrooms aren't overcrowded and students often have the same teacher more than once in their high school career. This familiarity between the students and teachers of the school gives both the students and teachers a better feel on each other, as the two sides learn to feel out the other's tendencies. In addition to the small class sizes, Carle Place High School enjoys solid support from the community, as new bond votes and the yearly budget seem to pass year in and year out. With a properly funded school, parents can expect their students to utilize the latest technology in the classroom, as well as a safe and comfortable environment for learning. The entire school district is wired for the future, with broadband internet being offered in all of the classrooms and libraries.
The teachers that are brought in to Carle Place High School are quite qualified for their positions within the district. 94% of the teachers possess a Masters Degree, compared to the state average of 79%; 4% of the teachers at Carle Place High School possess a Doctorate degree, which is much higher than the state average which is less than 1%. Combine these qualified teachers with the small class sizes, and you've got yourself a recipe for success.
As far as standardized testing and assessments are concerned, Carle Place High School students are no slouches. In 2006, 78% of students in Grade 7 met or exceeded the standards in the English Language Arts exam, administered by the state of New York; the state average is at 58%.
