"Sugar and spice and everything nice." These words have been used for years to describe our young girls. Well, young children today definitely get enough sugar, even if you do not over-do it at home. One way to get her up and moving is to enroll her in ballet lessons.

What little girl does not want to put on a tutu and dance around? Well actually, some might not enjoy ballet. Of course, you do not want to force your child to do an activity she does not want to do. Encourage her to give it a try.

Last year, we enrolled our daughter in a ballet class at Pat's School of Dance in Cordova, TN. She was 3 ½ at the time. This school requires children to be potty-trained and at least three years old in order to take dance classes.

Prior to signing her up, I researched dance schools in our area that taught ballet. In our area, I found a myriad of ballet classes ranging from $25 a month to over a hundred dollars a month. Some were very strict on dress codes, even at an early age. Most of the schools allowed students as young as three but I have heard of others starting at age two.

The dance school that we selected had a reasonable dress code and very caring attitude towards the children. We were very impressed with the instructors and our daughter loved her ballet class which met once a week for thirty minutes. Our dance school allows make-up classes and works with parents and children on separation anxiety issues.

my girls took ballet for many years when they were very young and on to their teens and it laid the foundation for so many good things in the future for them when they were in high school

I took ballet starting at age 3. Around age 6 I decided gymnastics was more fun and eventually moved on to tennis. BUT, I'm really thankful my mom got me into it. I had a great experience!

Great article. I'm for just about anything (legal and moral) that gets them up and moving.

I really wish I had taken dance lessons. I think it would have raised my confidence level greatly.
