So, if you're like most computer users, you are very knowledgeable about computer use. You can find files, locate what you need to on the Internet and, perhaps, edit a video or two. However, when it comes to the actual workings of the desktop, not everyone is as smart they once thought they were. This is very true when having to install a graphics card. If you are an avid computer user, especially if you are a fan of game play, than sooner or later you will have to install a graphics card. Most people rely on friends to do this, however, when you find out how simple and easy it is, you'll be more than happy to install your friends graphics cards.

There are several steps that you must take in order to properly install a graphics card. The first, and most important is to make find out the exact type of graphics card that is compatible with your computer system. Depending on what type of motherboard, or computer manufacturer you have, there will be a list of compatible graphics cards. Secondly, for the job at hand, you will need several tools. These include a SCREWDRIVER that is not magnetized as well and an anti-static wrist strap, which you can find at any computer store. The specifications of these tools are VERY important, especially the wrist strap. Not gathering the right tools could end in utter disaster (for example, ruining your new graphics card by an undetectable shock).

Now that you have all of your tools together, comes the fun part. When you're looking at your computer tower, take off the left side panel. After you have removed the left side panel, lay the computer down on its side and locate the correct expansion slow. There are several different expansion slots that fit graphics and video cards. These include AGP slots, standard PCI slots, 16x PCI Express slots and 1x PCI Express slots. Once you've located the correct expansion slot, it's time to remove the IO plate. Depending on your computer, the way to remove the plate can vary, but it is, for the most part, very simple.
