The FBI Bank Robbery Task Force, the Houston Police Department and the Harris County Sheriff's office are seeking the help of the public in helping apprehend a pair of bank robbers nick-named the Mutt and Jeff robbers. They are believed responsible for three bank robberies in the Houston Texas area. There is also a $5,000 reward being offered by Crime Stoppers.

They are becoming more brazen and threatening with each robbery. They are suspected of robbing the Wachovia Bank, located at 10009 Almeda Genoa Road, Houston, Texas on June 25, and the First Convenience Bank located at 11701 South Sam Houston Parkway, Houston, Texas on June 28. Their method was pretty much the same, with one of the suspects remaining in the getaway car while his partner entered the bank. In each instance, there was no weapon seen and they passed a note to a teller demanding money.

However, they became more violent and threatening in the last robbery which happened Friday at 7:45 a.m. at the Wachovia Bank branch located at 1005 Bay Area Boulevard in Houston. This time, both robbers entered the bank as it was being opened. They forced the employees who were opening the door back inside the bank and this time both of them displayed firearms. The employees were ordered to open the bank vault and when they did not move fast enough, the suspects put the guns to the heads of the tellers. The longer it took for the tellers to comply, the more abusive they became.

When the tellers were able to finally get the vault open, the robbers stuffed money into a black plastic bag as well as a brown cardboard box that had the words "Special Agent Binny" on the side. This is a special box, used by the bank for storage of confidential trash. The gunmen then ordered the employees to the ground and fortunately no one was injured. The car they escaped in was a stolen silver colored four-door Ford Fusion which was recovered by police a short time later.
