The first thing that pops up at you when you visit Hi-Pines is the modern look of it. The facilities are very clean and new, and the entire campground was clean. The bathrooms were nice, and the campground also had clean showers. The campground does also have pit toilets, but they were cleaner than most that I had seen before.
There are many things to do at Hi-Pines as well. There is a huge lake on the campground that has pretty clean water. You can swim in the lake, and there was also some fishing available. There is also a beach area to play on. Besides the water, there were trails for hiking and biking. We went on a hiking trail, and it was nicely wooded with plants. The trail we took was not difficult and not hot because of the shade.
We were also in luck that weekend because there was horse riding available. It was the first time that we rode horses, but it was easy with the calm, trained horses. I rode on a big black horse, and it was fun to be riding high up off the ground on an animal. There is a twelve dollar cost to ride the horses, however.
The campsites are Hi-Pines Campground are very nice as well. There are many choices for camping- RV or tent, wooded or open, electricity or no electricity. We had campsite 73, which had electricity. The ground had gravel that was pretty even, and sleeping was comfortable as well. Site 73 is also pretty wooded and well-shaded from any sun. The site also had a picnic table and even water readily available. The site was clean and had lots of space.
The entire campground is modern, including the clubhouse that is there. At the clubhouse, you can buy all the essentials such as ice and firewood at a reasonable price. Also, there is a nice television in there, so we were able to catch up on some baseball scores. And there was a nice snack bar with great food. This place was relaxing and kind of felt like home instead of camping. You can choose to visit it if you're interested.
