With the talent of Leontyne Price, the essence of Ella Fitzgerald, the quality of Patti LaBelle, and the power of Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston without a doubt, defies the female human instrument, hence why she is a legendary. Despite the criticism Whitney receives and what she has been through, she has truly grown, as someone who should be respected in the industry.
I first discovered Whitney Houston in the 80s era (1988 to be exact), when she performed a song called "One Moment In Time" which was released as a single for the 1988 Olympics held in Seoul Korea. It's a very passionate, upbeat number crossed over into an inspirational ballad that was filled with extensive inspiration and passion. It was projected so amazingly, as if you were made to believe what Whitney was singing and what she meant. The song speaks so many volumes, as did every song Whitney Houston performed ranging from Didn't We Almost Have It All to The Greatest Love Of All and more.
Music critics and theorists believe that Whitney's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner is the best version of the national anthem to date. Although I have a lot of favorite Whitney Houston songs and albums, my favorite album remains to be "The Body Guard Soundtrack" as the entire album set the standard for the female pop music persuasion. The song "I Will Always Love You" from The Bodyguard Soundtrack remains to be on of the most gifted songs ever performed by Whitney Houston, as the song is just a cover, yet Whitney performed it so amazingly, it is known as her song.
