Now wouldn't it be nice to take a break and relax from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life even for just a little while? Give yourself the break you deserve with an aromatherapy massage.Massage Therapy and Its Effects
In 1776, Swedish born Per Henrick Ling developed a series of exercises that eventually became the popularly called Swedish Massage or Massage Therapy. It has been known that this therapy is very beneficial for the body. By applying massage therapy on the body it can calm the autonomic fight and flight response and decrease harmful stress. The movements used in massage therapy can increase and stimulate good circulation of blood in the body which in effect will enhance the transport of oxygen and nutrients to the cells.
Aromatherapy and Its Effects
For many centuries, people have used herbs and plant extracts in many different ways. But it was just in the 20th century that chemist and pharmacists took interest in the effects of aroma to the health of a person.
In 1928, chemist Rene-Maurice Gattefosse while working had an accident. He got his arm burned and as an instinct dipped his burning arm to the nearest liquid he could see which happened to be lavender essence oil. He observed that his burns healed quickly and left almost no scar. With this incident, he became more interested with essence oils and eventually coined the term aromatherapy.
The research on aromatherapy and different natural oils go on. Studies do show that essence oils have effects not just on the physiological aspect but also on the psychological aspect of the body.
