Ikea stores started in Sweden and soon successfully spread their wings into the United States. The idea of warehouse furniture shopping and "assemble it yourself" products quickly gained popularity throughout the country. Enticing prices, unique and colorful products, fun and functional décor, space saving items and funky designs epitomize the Ikea tradition.

I discovered Ikea about 8 years ago in Schaumburg, Illinois just 45 minutes outside of Chicago. While shopping for my boyfriend's modern high rise condo, I uncovered a myriad of quirky décor and practical furnishings that were economically priced and surprisingly sturdy. Although the store does provide some thrifty dorm room type, yet useful, items, it also produces middle to upscale furnishings with appealing price tags.

When decorating the condo on a budget, I was on a quest for some modern, yet simple end tables. I discovered the Lack side table priced unbelievably at just $12.99 each. And the only thing theses tables lack is a hefty price tag. They are trendy, yet traditional, simple, yet sleek, and sturdy yet lightweight. We opted for solid black but they're available in several nifty colors such as: green, red, white, brown, beech and birch. With these interesting options, the Lack side table could either subtly blend into a room or brightly pop against any design.

The Lack tables are easy to assemble and measure around 21" in length, 21" in width and 17" in height. They have a square butcher block appearance with four chunky cubed legs that simply screw right into the base. They are primarily made up of particle board, fiber board and acrylic lacquer. And you can easily clean them with a soft damp cloth and just a touch of surface or wood cleaner.
