Over the last few years studies have been showing a drastic increase in natural food product rising over the internet and in health food stores. In fact, from the Revolution Health website more than sixty-six percent of Americans state they use organic products at least occasionally. Are you following the trend or are you part of the thirty-four percent that does not?

When I was growing up in a small Midwestern town, hearing the word organic was unheard of at the time. Still in my twenties though, I have seen a drastic change from my rearing days compared to today. It is almost like America is in its - Natural Evolution. This process seems rather backwards since going "natural" just means to return to our roots of hunters and gathers, a time before preservatives were added to food.

Myself, I am right on the bandwagon and intend to stick to being healthy for the rest of my life. Now, I was born into a family of "meat and potato" eaters however at around the age of ten years old went vegetarian for personal satisfaction reasons. If you are also one of these people however can not stick to a rigid raw vegan diet, at least you can eat the most natural foods possible and get the supplements that are needed everyday.

In my opinion I have seen a change in the natural health foods industry throughout the years. For me, I have seen more and more health foods rise up around the nation. Even though my small Midwestern town that I grew up still does not have a health foods store, many small towns have one.

Here are a few trends that I have noticed popping up over the internet and from just people watching in the health foods stores:

1. People are choosing organic over other options. In fact, the Organic Trade Association states that organic products are selling anywhere from three to eight times faster compared to other products. There are so many products out there from organic cheese to organic pet clothing.

When budget allows, I like to shop in Health Food stores. Grocery stores keep changing product lines and can no longer find my favorite cereal in the Organic foods aisle.

A lot of great tips here on those wanting to go organic with everything they buy. I've attempted to go organic on several things the last few years (organic milk, incidentally, tastes much better than hormone-enriched milk most people drink)--yet the popularity of the products makes them hard to find in local grocery stores sometimes. Some grocery stores don't even sell any organic products...yet. I see it snowballing soon due to the high demand for some products. Overall--I hope that health food stores keep fighting the good fight. The FDA would have a field day if they could shut down every alternative health food store in the U.S. Some of the governmental pressure has come close to bringing down some health food stores...but they keep surviving thanks to a good chunk (no pun intended ;) ) of the American people who realize how much we're missing out on in our diets. But this is also a good start to solving the obesity crisis in this country.

interesting. for the most part I'm not into the whole organic thing except for certain things but I do make my own chemical free household cleaners and I feed my dogs holistic all natural foods.

I don't think we should be forced to pay extra for healthier foods, but that's the way our economy is set up right now. Good article!

Good article. Results of a recent study conducted over 10 years confirmed that organically grown tomatoes are larger and more full of nutrients than "normally grown". But, let's not go too extreme. I'm not interested in returning to a hunter-gatherer society. They were not nearly as healthy as we tend to romanticize them into being. As to the commentary about pesticides not allowed in Europe but allowed in the States...well, they banned DDT when they should NOT have. It's a bad habit we humans have...if our world is not "perfect" then we start romanticizing the opposite kind of world....only to discover that it was never "perfect" either.
