Interview with Lisa Clampitt, Co-Founder of the Matchmaking Institute
Picking the Brain of a Professional Matchmaker
Lisa Clampitt, along with her partner Jerome Chasques, founded the Matchmaking Institute in 2003; one of the first and only schools to provide formal training and certification in matchmaking. Besides that, the Matchmaking Institute introducesYou became a matchmaker how? You were a social worker for 13 years and then...?
Lisa C- I got my Master degree in Social work and took a test to get licensed by the state of New York. When I wanted to switch careers, matchmaking seemed like a great option. Matchmaking and social work are equally important careers. Both are helping professions that can make a significant impact on the people you work with. To me, the matchmaking profession is the lighter and fun side of social work. Helping people find love and gain access to great people who have the same value system is amazing. Helping people to understand what they truly want in a relationship is a pleasure.
You and your partner Jerome Chasques co-founded The Matchmaking Institute in 2003. How important is the Matchmaking Institute for anyone interested in becoming a matchmaker or anyone looking for a professional matchmaker?
Lisa C- The Matchmaking Institute curriculum consist of a number of courses such as an overview of the dating and matchmaking industry, prescreening techniques and information acquisition, how to network effectively, techniques for interviewing clients, how to find your first client. We conduct role playing to practice interviewing techniques as well as dating and relationship coaching. We also have a code of ethics for budding matchmakers, guidelines that they can follow. Our motto at the Matchmaking Institute is "Under promise and over deliver."
