Do you want scholarships to assist in the high cost of college? The answer should be "of course," and this is where it may vary. There are a lot of misconceptions about scholarships floating around, making it seem like an impossible task to obtain one. Scholarships aren't only for the very poor or academically highly successful.

"Scholarships are available to students from diverse backgrounds and interests who seek an education in a vast variety of HFCC programs," says Cynthia Peppers, Interim Executive Director of HFCC Foundation.

Henry Ford Community College (HFCC), offers a wide array of scholarships that don't have the stipulation of financial need or merit, although when the committee meets to discuss and select applicants to receive the scholarship, merit and financial need do play some part, but often may not be the determining factor.

Amazingly enough, there are many scholarships that go un-awarded at HFCC. That means no one has applied for that scholarship and the money stays in the fund. No has applied for it. As some students may put it, "no one wants free money."

If receiving a scholarship to help assist you in school, or even to put on your resume, sounds appealing, it is easy to apply for. In front of the counseling offices there stands a wooden stand about six feet tall. This stand has a few of the scholarships to apply for. If you find a tray that is empty, inquire inside the counseling office to get a copy of that scholarship application.

One of the easiest ways to find out what scholarships HFCC offers is to visit the website, www.hfcc.edu. Click on the link to "Tuition and Financial Aid" and scroll down to scholarships and click on that. There is a link to "HFCC's Scholarships." That posts all the scholarships HFCC offers. One you find some that are appealing to you or you qualify for, on the previous page there is another link "HFCC scholarship Application."
