my problems have started right after the birth of my daughter about two years ago. Since that day, things have drastically changed with my body. The first thing that I noticed was the weight gain, which happens a lot of the time. I gained close to thirty pounds in a year and a half. Since then I have worked hard to lose this weight.
The next thing that I noticed was major migraine headaches. They would come week by week and last for several days. Medication would not help the migraines and they would get worse whenever I was moving. The only thing I could do to make them stop was to sleep. I'm not saying that Depo DID cause these horrible headaches but I never had a problem until I received my first shot. I would like to know if any other women have experienced problems with headaches since they have gotten on the depo provera shot.
The next thing that happened was spotting. It's not even spotting, it's flooding. Imagine bleeding every single day for two years straight. There were a few times, I would say one out of every three shots, that my period would be gone for about two weeks. Other than that, I would bleed profusely every single day. Now I've noticed that I'm starting to see blood clots which is a horrible sign. I am deciding to no longer continue on with the depo shot. I have called my doctor to request being place on the pill instead of the shot. My doctor is still deciding whether or not I will be able to be on the pill because of certain other problems.

I just wanted to thank you for writing this article. It helped to assure me with my side effects. A nurse practitioner administered my Depo shot 2 months ago. She also convinced me to not get a nuva ring and get this shot, even though i had told her that my past history with pill forms of birth control resulted in terrible side effects- i trusted in her knowledge and realize now that i should have gone home to research the shot before getting it. Two days after the injection i had severe abdominal cramping, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and fatigue. I returned to the nurse practitioner and she said this was normal for some women- the information she gave me on the shot before i got it was completely mild symptoms and made it sound like the best birth control around. After those symptoms subsided in a week I started to get violently nauseas 24/7 and could barely hold one meal down a day. Again, I was told this was another side effect- they said would go away. i took the depo shot once a year only one time not every 3 months like it says to. both times i didn't have a period for one year. and i had sever head aches that the only way to rid them was to sleep. i gain 30 lbs that just wont seem to go away, and ive also no have gallbladder problems because of this shot. and the only reason why i opted for the depo is because i am a smoker and my doctor told me it was safer to go this route. id advise if you dont want to get pregnante make your boyfriend get sterilized honestly

I was on the shot for about 5 years. I only spotted for the first 2 months and then I didnt have a period at all. After about a year I started having constant headache and felt sick to my stomach thoughout the day. Which caused me to be moody 24/7 it was like having major PMS everyday for 4 years. Just no bleeding. After I for off the shot it was the next month When I had my period, the pain was breath taking. I cried for hours and I was bleeding very very heavly. 2 years later Iam still bleeding heavly and the cramps are very painful. There are some months that I could have 3 periods, and other times that I dont have one for months. My period is very irregular. My doctor told me that once the shot was out of my system they would regulate but I am still waiting. There have been many times that I should have gotten pregnant and I did not. But I dont know if that was due to the fact that it wasnt the right time or if it was from the depo. to you ladys out there, find another birth contro

i WAS ON E THE DEPO SHOT FOR 7 MONTHS BEFORE THE SHOT I ALWAYS HAD MY PERIOS ON TIME NEVER MISSED OR ANYTHING AFTER TAKING THE SHOT I GAINED ABOUT 10 POUNDS A MONTH AND I HAD SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN THEY TOLD ME I WAS BLEEDING AROUND MY OVARY AND IT WAS NORMAL (WHICH MADE NO SINCE TO ME I WAS 18 AND IT DIDN'T SEEM NORMAL) i WAS ALSO HAVING PERIODS THAT WOULD LAST AROUND TWO WEEKS AND I WOULD HAVE A TAMPON AND PAD ON AT THE SAME TIMES THE MOST ABSROBANT THEY MADE AND HAD TO CHANGE THEM EVERY 45 MINS AND HAD HUGE CLOTS AND NOW I AM ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATE ON MY PERIOD BUT AM NOT PREGNATE.....

I have been off the shot for about a year now and have had more complications being off the shot then when I was on it. I have been having major abdominal pains, back pain, and numerous dental work... I also have had blood n my stole. I was on the shot for about 5 years and before getting on it I asked numerous questions but every nurse assured me that the shot was safe... something needs to be done

I have been on the shot for almost 4 yrs now and im only now starting to have trouble with it.. I never got my periods which was great but now i keep bleeding off and on and i dont understand why....

I have not had one normal period since I took this shot, I also have horrible headaches that I never had before and my best friend is still having issues from this shot.

Hi I have been on the shot for almost 7 years.I have found that I am very moody and short temperd. I am now looking at leaving it completly. I was never told what the shot will do and how it worked. But I have read some of the things on this site that has opend my eyes. Thanks to everyone.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the terrible side effects. What I dont' understand is why you didn't get off the shot sooner? Tolerating a period for two years straight is unbearable. I was prescribed the nor qd which is straight progesterone but its in pill form so its low doses daily. I haven't started it yet, but you might want to consider that as an alternative. I'm taking the pill solely for ovarian complications and to prevent further complications so if your having incidental problems as well, you might want to consider it.

I got the shot in Dec. of 2005 after having my daughter, that's when I started getting sick. I got so nauseated,I got headaches,anxiety attacks,I bled not spot but bled for 18 months straight, I still get nauseated and I have lost 13 pounds to what I was bfour I got pregnant with my first. Just recently I had to have a D and C because I was 3 months along and I miscarried and I didn't know it for 3 weeks, the baby wouldn't expel itself on its own. How long will this last?
