For quite some time, there has been an interest in working from home. Many companies allow their workers to telecommute or work from home. Stay at home mothers, college students and retirees are also interested in finding a legitimate work at home career. The question that comes to mind though is, "Do legitimate work at home jobs exist?" The answer is yes. However, they are hard to find and there are an over abundance of scams that are far to easy to fall for.

When looking for a work at home job, do your homework. Carefully do your homework. Scammers make their offer sound great and hard to pass up. Most of us are aware that if something sounds to good to be true, it probably is. However, the majority of us will still fall for some type of scam at some point or another. I consider myself to be a fairly intelligent person and I have almost fallen a victim to several scams. It is easy to do. Check with your local BBB to see if the "job offer" is legitimate and talk with friends and family to see if anyone has been involved with the potential company.

If there is a "start up" fee or "administrative" fee of any kind involved, you should proceed with caution. You should never have to pay for work, whether it be a "finders fee", "start up fee" or any other type. The exception to this is a home based business. When you sign up to be a private consultant with a home based business that deals with direct sales, you should expect to pay a fee to begin your career.

Some companies do allow their employees to work from a home office and visit the office once a week. Normally, this happens after you have been with the company for awhile and they have developed a trusting relationship with you. Some companies wish to cut down on their overhead costs and offer their employees the opportunity to work from home.
