Bowling at the AMF Lanes in Lakeland, FL

While visiting my friend Phil in Lakeland, FL, we were looking for something to do inside on a rainy July 21, 2007. We had just finished up at Beef 'O Brady's, and we were looking for some fun entertainment for the night. We decided that bowling would be a great activity to do inside.

Phil called up a few of his friends and we all met at the bowling alley. When we arrived we found Jason and his wife playing a game on one of those screen games at the bar. In this game you had two pictures where you had to pick out five to six objects that were different between the pictures. It was pretty fun and challenging. The rest of the gang showed up and we went to get our lane.

We had a total of seven people, so we had to split two lanes. My wife and I got our shoes and the clerk there took us to our bowling lane. I have never had such service before at a bowling alley. Once we finished lacing up our shoes, it was time for us to find the right size bowling ball. This is usually pretty difficult for me because I have long skinny fingers and a fat thumb. The same guy that escorted us to our lane also took us to the finger sizing bowling ball that had many holes cut out for different size fingers and it would tell you what ball you needed. Again, very impressed by such service at a bowling alley. I fit my fingers into the holes and found my size. I went and selected my bowling ball and brought it back to our lane.

We started bowling, and the computer has an interesting way of keeping track of whose turn it is between both lanes. I have never seen this before. We started bowling on both lanes at the same time, then when the last person on lane one finished, the first person on lane two would bowl on lane one. You would switch lanes as you bowled; you really do need to look at the scoreboard for more than just bragging rights, but also to know which lane you should be bowling on. At first it was a little confusing, but we got the hang of it as the night went on.
