American Players Theater: A Live Theater Production in SW Wisconsin

The American Players Theater is southwestern Wisconsin’s premiere location for live theatre entertainment in an inspirational setting. Located just 40 miles west of Wisconsin’s capital city of Madison, the amphitheater is located along the Wisconsin River on 110 beautiful acres. The inspiration for this theater is derived from Shakespeare’s classic original, the Globe Theatre in London. Although not a replica, the amphitheater seats 1148 at full capacity. Today, visitors from around the country can visit the venue for five to six different Shakespearean plays performed in rotation over the peak season. The outdoor theatre has grown in popularity since its inception in 1979, and special events also include tours, gourmet picnic dinners, and group packages.

The theater company has a staff of approximately 120 in peak season, and no detail is left untouched to complete a fabulous production. Year after year, the theatre performs Shakespearan classics that gain positive reviews and frequent visitor returns. This year in 2006 the theatre’s plays include The Matchmaker, Romeo & Juliet, Measure for Measure, Arms and the Man, Julius Caeser, and Dickens in America. You won’t ever be disappointed by the remarkable stage performance, professional acting company and crew, and natural setting! The Hubbard Avenue Diner located in Middleton, Wisconsin provides a gourmet menu of sandwiches, wraps, and even a glorious picnic basket for parties of 6-8. Local schools can also book spots for special workshops, educational seminars, and artist interviews.
