What are the top five hidden home hazards for children?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has published a list of the top five most dangerous hazards in the home that affect the safety of children. Parents may already be aware of some of these top five hidden dangers in the home. Others maysurprise you. Can you guess which hazard tops the list before reading it?
It is the responsibility of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to ensure the safety of consumer products. They have done for for the past 30 years, and in that time consumer and child related injuries and deaths related to consumer products has declined by 30 percent, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
In addition to the top five hidden home hazards list provided by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, I also include some common sense remedies.
Top Five Hidden Home Hazards for Children
1. Magnets
It is surprising that magnets tops the list. This is not just about cute refrigerator magnets, this is about the growing number of magnets found in children's toys, and in consumer products in general.
Cheaply made products with magnets can pose a hazard if magnets come loose.
Natural Remedies for this Hidden House Household Danger:
- Parents of young children should refrain from buying cute or small refrigerator magnets. There are so many round, small, animal-themed magnets out right now, they can be hard to resist. Stick with large, flat magnets or magnet clips to post items on the refrigerator. A child is much less interested in flat magnets than they are in a shiny, round magnet that looks like a toy.
- Parents should check any toys for magnets, and ensure that they are secure and not loose.
- Do not let children under six play with toys with magnets unless they are supervised.
- Fix any loose magnets on toys, or discard any that cannot be fixed.
2. Recalled Products
Recalled products don't always make their way back to the retailer, or into the trash.
