You have probably heard that it is important that you drink enough water. But what is the big deal really? It can't be that important. Does drinking water actually do anything positive for you and your body? The answer to that question is yes! There are many benefits to drinking water and it is important that you get enough daily.

One benefit that comes with drinking water is that you will have more energy. You lose about ten cups of fluid a day from sweating, exhaling, urinating, and bowel movements. It is easy to become dehydrated without the proper amount of water when you think of things in that perspective. Without water you become dehydrated and your blood is then quite literally thicker. This makes your body have to work harder to get the blood flowing. In turn, your brain then becomes less active, you can't concentrate as well, and your body feels fatigued. When you drink enough water your blood's oxygen level is higher which leads to a higher energy level.

Drinking enough water will also help you to lose weight and lose fat. Water is an appetite suppressant. Most times when you feel hungry your body really wants water, not food. Also, if you aren't hydrated your body's fat cells aren't easily metabolized. This is because the liver has to do the kidney's job. The fat is then harder to lose. When you don't get enough water you will retain more fluid, muscles won't have the best tone, and sodium will build up in the body. It is also a fact that dehydration decreases something known as protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is responsible for building muscle. Without enough water more calories end up in your fat stores instead of building proteins needed for muscle growth.

Water also increases your mental and physical performance. Water lubricates and cushions the body's joints and muscles. When exercising, dehydration can cause muscle cramps. Drinking water will help you to reach your optimal physical performance level. It will also help you to think more clearly, even improving your memory. Hydration is necessary for the human brain to function properly and at its highest ability level.
