In order to survive your first week of college, you must know if the classes you're taking are right for you. One way to do this is to look over each class syllabus. You can usually find this information on the school's website. If you find that a class isn't for you, you'll have time during your first week to change your schedule.

Once you have your textbooks, start reading them. This way, you not only get a better feel for the course, but you can also find out if you can handle the course. You will be able to purchase your textbooks several weeks in advance.

Yes, visit your classroom if you can before the class starts. I remember sitting in a junior level classroom (I had mixed the numbers up in my head) and thinking, this does not look like an English class (there was art easels all around me!) and the professor kindly said, if anyone thinks they don't belong in here, you may leave now. And I practically ran out of there. Survival tip number 11 --- carry a copy of your schedule with you! Avoid the embarrassment of going into room 123 instead of 132 ;)
