Montana is known as Big Sky Country, with wide open spaces, western wilderness and pristine landscapes. Labor Day weekend is a great time to take a drive out west and wonder at the blue skies and mountain landscapes.

There are lots of events to enjoy on Labor Day weekend. Discover the "off the beaten bath" attractions of Montana. Many of the events honor the history of the American west, with Cowboy Rodeos, Indian Pow Wows and Wagon Trains. Take a drive out to "Big Sky" country and enjoy the fresh air and beauty of the landscape while learning about the wild west heritage of our nation.

Following are some Labor Day Weekend events in Montana:

Montana Cowboy Mounted Shooting Competition, Bozeman: August 27-29: Exhibition, Wild West show, competition. Authentic cowboys and cowgirls get dressed up in 1800's period clothing and compete in a timed shooting event with 45 caliber pistols on horseback. Free to the public.

Big Sky Mountainfest, Big Sky, MT. September 1.

Sanders County Fair and Rodeo, Plains. August 27 - September 2. Fair attracts visitors from Montana, Idaho and Washington State. PRCA Rodeo, carnival, food and fun. There are two night performances of PRCA rodeo with Bull Riding and a Demolition Derby.

Beaverhead County Fair, Dillon. August 28 - September 2. Fair features livestock shows, children's rodeos, food, carnival, exhibits, horse show and more.

Ravalli County Fair, Hamilton. August 29 - September 1. Fair features livestock, horse show, pedal tractor contest, little people's rodeo, grandstand , carnival, demolition derby and more.

Milk River Wagon Train, Malta, MT. The oldest continuous wagon train in the west pulls out on its 37th excursion. Days of wholesome outdoors fun including horses, teams, wagons, barbecue and people in the Missouri River Country.

Annual Saco Fun Days Celebration, Saco. August 31 - September 2. A Weekend of fun with food, music, dancing, games and demolition derby.
