The New York Office of the FBI has announced the sentencing of registered sex offender and Long Island, New York, school teacher to jail term of 20 years, after which he will be supervised for life. He will also be continued to be listed on the sex offender registry list.

Robert S. Weinstein was convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography stemming from an investigation that was begun by the FBI in January of 2005 when they seized a computer from a person living in Charlotte, North Carolina. The computer contained child pornography that was sent by Weinstein. This enabled the FBI to obtain a search warrant to search Weinstein's home at which time they seized a computer that was found to contain 654 still pictures as well as 60 videos of child pornography with the children ranging in age from infants to teenagers of 14.

At that time, the defendant admitted that he was engaged in the activity of training images of child photography and that he did download those images from the internet. He pleaded guilty to three counts of distribution of child pornography as well as seven counts of distribution.

This is not his first brush with the law. His first conviction came in 1992 in Nassau County New York for Attempted Sexual Abuse in the First Degree involving a 10-year-old boy in East Rockaway in Nassau County. For this offense he was sentenced to six months in prison followed by five years of probation and was put on the sex offender list. At the time of his arrest, he was a teacher and choir director employed by the East Meadow School District on Long Island.

Three months after his release, he was arrested once again, this time in Toronto for soliciting sex from a 14-year-old boy. This time he received a five-month sentence.
