Travel throughout the world's airports has become a marathon of inspections that can become quite time consuming. To ensure you are ready for your next trip whether it be a short domestic flight or international vacation, follow these time saving tips.

The liquid challenge

Arriving at the airport early is a necessity due to the unpredictable wait times for security. The Transportation Security Administration requests passengers arrive to the airport no less than an hour and a half prior to their departure time. This is to ensure plenty of time to check bags and pass through the passenger screening checkpoints.

Ever since the possibility of terrorists assembling liquid explosives came into the spotlight a year ago, passengers have had their bottled water, liquid mascara, and peanut butter taken away by security screening agents. Knowing the contents of your carry-on may seem obvious, but can save time and hassle.

TSA has instituted the "3-1-1" program to help remind passengers of carry-on liquid limitations. The program allows liquids in a three ounce bottle or less to be transported in a one quart-sized plastic bag. Keep in mind there is no restriction for liquids transported in checked luggage.

Larger liquids that are allowed in carry-on luggage include medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice. These items are not required to be in a zip-top bag, but must be declared at the checkpoint for inspection.

Fly through the X-ray machine

With complicated rules and procedures to pass through the security checkpoint, preparation is important.

After leaving your car, empty your pockets into your carry-on with the exception of your photo ID (and cell phone if you desire). This will ensure that there are a minimal number of objects in your pockets when it comes to your turn in line at the x-ray machine. Even if it does not seem like there is a lot of metal on your belt buckle, removing it will certainly speed up the screening process.
