I'm sure you have a commercial or two (or several) for a prescription medication. Each commercial always look so perfect and wonderful-apparently we, the consumers, are supposed to understand that the message of the commercial is that the prescription medication being advertised will definitely and completely solve whatever problem for which it is intended to be taken. Never mind any pesky side effects-those are mentioned as a brief afterthought, almost as if to say that those are unimportant and quite uncommon.

I don't know about you, but for me those side effects aren't so unimportant. I don't treat possible side effects from medication casually. This interest of mine in prescription medications came about because of my need to take several prescriptions and because of the assistance I am giving to my senior citizen parents in managing their medications. So, I tend to look at each new prescription medication that comes out on the market with a critical eye-and I have found some surprisingly unpleasant side effects from some of the more popularly advertised medications.

Vytorin is a medicine that is commonly prescribed to help patients lower cholesterol. Literature about this medication says that it works to lower the LDL cholesterol and raises levels of the HDL cholesterol-supposedly, it lowers the total cholesterol better than Crestor and Lipitor (two other common prescription medications). If it works as it should, it sounds pretty good, doesn't it? But what doesn't sound so good are the commonly reported side effects-headache and muscle pain.

Strange Side Effects of Prescription Medications

It is a little disconcerting to think that each and every prescription medicine in your house right now likely has some kind of odd or strange possible side effect, isn't it?

About 7 years ago, I was pretty sick. The doctor started me on 3 medications, I started having other symptoms and ended up taking 17 different meds. I was so sick to begin with it didn't occur to me that the new sysmptoms were side effects. The doctor didn't mention it. I finally got another doctor and got off most of those medications.

Very informative article! All I know is I almost died from all the medications the doctors gave me 3 years ago. I would rather die from the original illness, then die from the side effects. At least it would make more sense. Stopped going to doctors, haven't even taken an aspirin in 3 years. I'm healthier than I have ever been in my life. I say GO NATURAL!!

I've noticed that some of the side effects of meds sound far worse than the symptoms they're meant to treat. The commercials rattle off a half dozen or more unpleasant side effects, and I'm wondering which is worse - the medical problem or the side effects. It's almost laughable listening to the commercials, but yet it isn't for those with problems. Oh yeah... diarrhea and stomach pain sound like a really good trade for an acid problem. I don't think so!

It is strange sometimes how the very medicines that are supposed to help you will cause new problems!

You aren't the only one who noticed Requip's side effects. I mean, your restless legs are gonna take you to a casino the way they make it sound! I think it might be cheaper to just live w/restless legs in the long run!

I try to avoid such things whenever possible.
