A Self-described Soda Addict's Guide to Diet Drinks

Growing up a Dr. Pepper fiend, I was one of those people you'd hear say, "ewww, diet? I'd rather have water!" A nice, cold, fizzing Dr. Pepper on ice (preferably in a Styrofoam cup with a lid and straw) is still my absolute favorite refreshment. Over the past few years, however, I have tested numerous diet soft drinks, trying to find one that satisfied my thirst without all those empty calories. And it's taken me that long to learn to enjoy diet drinks! Below are my top five diet sodas.

Number 5 - Diet Cherry-Vanilla Dr. Pepper. It's sweet, creamy and smooth. If you're a fan of Dr. Pepper, you are obviously a fan of sweet drinks! Because of the cherry and vanilla flavoring, diet Cherry-Vanilla Dr. Pepper has the same sweet taste you would get from a regular soda.

Number 4 - Diet Sunkist. I honestly cannot tell but a vague difference between the diet and the regular. The only reason Diet Sunkist is not my number one favorite is because I don't crave it very often. But if you are a fan of orange soda, definitely try Diet Sunkist!

Number 3 - Diet Dr. Pepper. Dr. Pepper has been changing their diets more and more than the competitors. And they are really close to getting an exact match! A diet Dr. Pepper goes perfectly with a salty snack, especially pretzels or Lay's potato chips (hey, you're saving all those calories on the diet drink, so go for the good snacks)!

Number 2 - Diet Dr. Thunder. If any of you have ever tasted a regular Dr. Thunder, you know it's even sweeter than a Dr. Pepper. For this reason, their diet soda tastes even better than the diet Dr. Pepper!

And Number 1 - Cherry Coke Zero. I've never been a huge Coke fan, but I enjoy a Cherry Coke occasionally. I was very impressed with diet Cherry Coke, so I had to try Cherry Coke Zero when it was introduced. Served really cold over a glass of ice, it just hits the spot. It is the perfect diet drink! Although I would still invest in Dr. Pepper stock over Coke's any day (a girl's got to follow her heart), the Coke company has won this contest with their Cherry Coke Zero.
