When you were a little girl dreaming of your wedding, probably the thing you fantasized about most was the beautiful dress you were going to wear. Sequins and lace and gorgeous fabric...just like something out of a fairy tale.

Now that the time has arrived and you're finally getting married, you still have that image in your mind of the perfect wedding dress. However, when you go out and hit the bridal shops looking for your ideal dress you may quickly find that your "dream" dress is well out of your price range.

Hold on! Don't drag out your credit card to charge the dress or give up on your dream and settle for something less than your ideal dress just yet! The good news is that by shopping smarter you can still have the dress of your dreams without putting yourself in debt for the rest of your married life.

Check out these ideas for ways to save money on your wedding dress:

Shop Online

You're probably already aware that you can get a big discount on a wedding dress by shopping online. The web has made it possible to shop at discount stores no matter where in the world you live.

Besides just checking out discount bridal shops online, also be sure to look at online auction sites like eBay. You can often find designer gowns for just a fraction of their retail price.

Haggle

Many brides cringe at the thought of purchasing a wedding dress online because they don't get the chance to try it on and make sure it is the right fit and the style looks good on them before they order it.

Often times, though, bridal shops will match internet prices on their dresses - but only if you ask. So, if you find a terrific deal on a dress online, try to find it at a local bridal shop and then ask if the shop will match the online price. The worst thing they can say is "no," and often times they will say yes.

This means that you still get a great deal on the dress, but you have the advantage of getting it from a local shop where you can try it on and have any alterations done.
