What is Pineapple Poker?

There are many different variations of the traditional poker game, and Pineapple Poker is a popular twist on this old fashioned game. When playing the game of Pineapple Poker, the dealer will give each player three cards, instead of the usual two. Once the cards are dealt, the bets can
then be placed. After the bets come the flop, which uses all three cards, similar to Hold’em. Another betting round takes place, after which each poker player must get rid of one of their three cards, leaving two cards in their hand.

Pineapple Poker is played using the traditional rules of Hold’em, with the difference being that the extra, or third card, is discarded. The timing of the discard is different in Pineapple Poker as well.

A twist to the common Pineapple Poker game is called Crazy Pineapple. Crazy Pineapple starts off the same as Pineapple, with the dealer again giving three cards instead of two. Players get rid of this third card once the second betting round is completed, but before the dealer deals the fourth community card.

When playing Crazy Pineapple, most players usually play high-low split, most of the time 8 or better. Each player is allowed to use whatever combination of cards they wish for the two hole cards, and then may use the five cards on the board for the high hand. They will use another combination to make the low hand.

In the event that no hand qualifies for the low hand, the player with the best high hand will win the hand.

During the showdown for the Crazy Pineapple game, the players may opt to use either both of their pocket cards, and three of the cards on the board, all five of the board cards, also known as playing the board, or one of their pocket cards and four of the board cards.

To be successful at the game of Pineapple, players need to develop highly detailed strategies. They have to learn when to discard their hand, and what makes a good hand. Discarding the wrong hand can lead to you losing the game, so timing and choices are crucial. You have to make a decision, and be able to live with the consequences. Learn from your mistakes, and watch the other players so that you can learn from theirs.
