We discovered Nutro dog foods a year or so ago. Our dog is very finnicky, and she just didn't care for any of the brands of dogfood that were sold in grocery stores. Then I learned about the animal by-products that are so prevalent in pet foods today, and was in a word, shocked. If you haven't looked into this, you should. According to Nutro, "the chicken meal in MAX does not include chicken heads, feet or intestines which may be found in products that contain chicken by-product meal".

Ingredients

Chicken Broth, Chicken, Cod, Beef Liver, Rice Bran, Oats, Rice Gluten, Ground Rice, Natural Flavors, Carrots, Guar Gum, Potatoes, Peas, Salt, Brewers Dried Yeast, Carrageenan, Sunflower Oil, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Ascorbate (source of Vitamin C), Ferrous Sulfate, Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Sodium Selenite, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Potassium Iodide, Biotin, Riboflavin Supplement.

Guaranteed Analysis

Crude Protein (minimum) 7.00%; Crude Fat (minimum) 2.50%; Crude Fat (maximum) 4.50%; Crude Fiber (maximum) 1.50%; Moisture (maximum) 78.00%; Ash (maximum) 3.00%; Linoleic Acid (minimum) 0.50%; Ascorbic Acid (minimum)**9 mg/kg.

My Thoughts

Nutro Max Weight Control is a great canned dog food for over weight or inactive adult dogs. It is made with good quality ingredients, no chicken by-products, and provides a good nutritional meal. It contains the needed vitamins and minerals to keep my dog healthy.

Our dog loves chicken, and she begs for it whenever we are eating it. I swear she can smell it a mile away. She also loves vegetables, especially fresh carrots! This Weight Control meal consists of Chicken, Rice and Vegetables. Rice is great for a dog with sensitive stomachs - and ours does tend to have problems with hers occasionally. Rice is very easy to digest, and is recommended by vets when our Silky Terrier is having a hard time keeping food down.

I have heard great things about this dog food, but I have been unable to find it for sale any where around here. I'll keep looking, thanks for the great review.

I'm surprised to hear your dog was so picky before. I thought it was just cats who turned their noses up at food they didn't like! Sophie
