For two years I struggled with insomnia before finally doing something about it. During my junior and senior years of high school I would go two days at a time without sleep. I'd wake up, go to school, go to work, go to school the next day, go to work, and then crash and do it all over again. It sort of became a way of life to me. Sometimes there would be three-day stretches without sleep but for the most part it was two days awake and about 12 hours of sleep to follow for me. I knew I had a problem but it wasn't until I got to college and went through some serious therapy that I was actually prescribed sleeping medication. I also suffer from depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and bi-polar disorder so, as a warning, this review is totally biased because of all my other mental issues.
Rozerem, a prescription medication for treating insomnia was given to me by my therapist. It was brand new at the time she handed it to me. It seemed like it would be better than Ambien and other sleep meds that put you in a coma instead of just help you sleep. Rozerem has a couple of things that make it ideal for anyone to take. It is the first sleep drug that is not a controlled substance so the government has recognized that it does not have the potential to become addictive. You don't have to take it every night. If you're having trouble sleeping you take it and if you're not then you don't. By taking it this way you never have to worry about becoming addicted. The best benefit of all, however is that after taking Rozerem you won't wake up groggy and feeling like you've been out drinking all night. There is no drug hangover like the previously mentioned Ambien.
So I started taking Rozerem and really liked it. In fact, I loved it. I could take it and fall right to sleep, wake up in eight hours and go right about my day. I recommended it to everyone I knew who had trouble sleeping.
That is, until it stopped working for me!
