Weiner Dogs Races have become increasingly popular as a purely fun event. Most of the racing dogs are not professional racers, but family pets. The Weiner dogs are adorable with sweet personalities, making them fun to watch. The short legged dogs can be speedy, but they may get distracted and stop to visit or even turn backwards. Anything can happen at the Weiner Dog Races.
The gates open at 10 am. There are all day events called "Meet the Breeds" and "Adopt-a-thon" There will be interesting events, such as a demonstration by Sandra Snell, DMV, of Sycamore Animal Hospital. Dr. Snell will talk about back care for dachshunds, acupuncture and chiropractic medicine to care for the long backs of the dachshunds.
The main events are the Weiner dog races. The races start at 1 pm and include the puppy races, senior race and adult races. Other events include the Race for a Cure of P.K.D. race, Special Kids Race, Angles for Animals Race, Oldest Dachshund, Smallest over one year, Best Nose, Best Dressed Female, Best Dressed Male, Look-A-Like (dog and human) Best Dressed Group and Largest Standard/Miniature and Longest Standard/Miniature . Doxies entered in the events must be weighted by noon.
Anyone can enter their dachshund in the races. The organizers encourage entering before races day to get the perks such as being listed on the website and in the program and getting a certificate of coming to the races. Entrants that do not preregister will not get these perks, but they can still enter.
There is lots of fun planned, sure to please a dachshund lovers heart. In addition to seeing the races, visitors can Meet the Breed, which is a discussion of the traits of dachshunds where owners and breeders can discuss the qualities of the Dachshund. Annual Adopt-a-Thon brings in Rescue Organizations placing dogs into appropriate homes.
Doggie Weddings will be performed for pups who want to tie the knot. Dachshunds will be dressed up in gowns and tuxedos to join in Holy Matrimony.
