When I think about different types of therapy, I immediately think of "the big guys," such as psychoanalytic, Adlerian, and behavior therapy. Though I do not object to using any technique within these therapies that may be beneficial, I think working with women demands a little more. Because men devise most therapy types, I feel like the special attention and care that is needed when counseling women is not taken into consideration. I was afraid that there would not be a therapy type that was woman-centered. I was shocked to find, however, that there was a therapeutic style that "puts gender and power at the core of the therapeutic process" (Corey, 2005).
