In a world where gas prices are ever increasing it is important that we all learn the simple and easy steps to getting better gas mileage, its a lot easier than you might think and costs little to nothing.

There are many things that effect gas mileage such as how you drive, how often you maintain your car, and the types of places you drive.

One of the biggest gas guzzling problems with most cars is not properly maintaining them. Low air pressure in tires and not changing oil on a regular basis are 2 of the main problems effecting gas mileage. You should always check tire pressure at least twice a month, for some they find it the easiest to remember this as every time they fuel up their car to check the pressure of their tires also. Hey why not, the air is there at the gas stations so why not check it? Its also good to keep a pressure gauge in your glove box as not all gas stations provide one and an over pressurized tire is just as bad as a low tire if not worse.

The next and probably the most important tip is to always change your oil and oil filter every 3,000 miles or 3 months. Having an engine with clean oil will almost always boost gas mileage and not only will it help your mileage it will ensure your car lasts much longer than if you neglect to change it on a regular basis. An engine that does not get an oil change on time can cause severe damage to the engine and this in turn causes bad gas mileage.

Now that we have covered the maintenance of a vehicle lets tackle the ever so haunting driving skills. We all drive differently some drive fast, some drive slow and some you cant stand to be next to on the road, right? Well did you ever think its also effects gas mileage? You guessed it, it sure does. When driving there are many aspects that depict what kind of gas mileage we are getting such as quick acceleration, stopping quickly and not keeping a constant speed. All of these you should take into consideration when driving. It is also best to avoid city driving as much as possible. Constant stopping and starting are the two main times when gas is consumed the fastest, so take the highway whenever possible.

Great points! The air pressure thing really does work. Last year we took our F250 in for tire rotation and balance. They didn't put enough air in the tires when they put them back on. Our gas mileage decreased significantly. Once we got them back up to speck, the mileage got better.
