Clay Aikin to Appear on "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"

All Winnings Go to the Bubel/Aiken Foundation

Clay Aikin, who came in second to Ruben Studdard on American Idol's second season, is now a multi- platinum recording artist. But he'll soon appear on another reality show: An all-celebrity version of "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" on Fox TV some time in the coming season.

He is the co founder of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation (TBAF), and for his appearance of the show, the foundation is guaranteed to receive at least $25,000. The way it will work is that the foundation will receive

money for each question he gets right. If he gets all 11 questions right, the foundation will receive one million dollars. He was a special education teacher before he tried out for American Idol and he hit it big in the musical industry, so he may do pretty well.

The Bubel/Aiken Foundation establishes Let's ALL Play camps and they have a goal of 100 camps to be established across the country in 2008. The Let's ALL Play camps give children with developmental disabilities the same chance to have a camp experience as every other child does. It is a place where children will all different abilities can come together and enjoy such things as swimming, baseball, archery, arts and crafts and physical fitness. They also get a chance to participate in community service.

The foundation works with children's organizations across the country by offering them as a resource a tested, successful and comprehensive camp model supported through specialized training.

The aim of The Bubel/Aiken Foundation is to be the force to help bridge the gap that separates today's young people who have special needs with their contemporaries and the world around them in general. The Foundation works to support communities that have inclusive programs and also works to create awareness in communities that do not about the great possibilities that inclusion can bring for all involved, the disabled and well kids as well as the adults who are fortunate to work with them.

What an excellent charity. I wasn't too fond of his musical talent (good - just not right for Idol), but this is definitely something to be commended. We love that show, so the fact that a charity is now involved makes it even beter.

Well... this should be an interesting show. If anything, I'll watch it just to see the banter between Akin and Foxworthy!
