Flower Power - Which Flowers to Use for Certain Situations

You don't always have to send or give flowers just for birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions. There are certain flowers that you can give to people that have meanings and messages behind them.

ZINNIAS

Zinnias mean "Thinking of you even though you are far away." Give one to an old friend, or a family member who doesn't live nearby.

SUNFLOWERS

These bright yellow flowers are beautiful to look at and have bountiful seeds. Ancient Inca's used to place these flower's image in their temples. Give them to a friend or family member that you are devoted to.

DAISY

This sweet little flower is the official flower of April. The daisy stands for youthful innocence, and can be given to your favorite niece or your daughter. These can even be picked and made into little flower crowns for a girls party or woven into hair.

HYDRANGEA

In Victorian times, hydrangeas meant you had bragging rights. Give to a newly promoted coworker or spouse. These are also wonderful because they can be replanted if given as a plant.

LILY

Roman mythology says that lilies grew from drops of Juno's breast milk. Give these lovely scented flowers to a new mom or mom to be.

PANSY

The Pansy was named for the French word for "thought." This flower is a thought full gift, give it to a party host or someone who has recently done something nice for you.

SWEET PEA

These flowers have a fragrance that lasts a long time. Give to someone who has moved away, or will be going on a long trip.

PEONY

The peony was named after Peon, physician to the Greek gods. Give them to a friend who is sick or family member that is under the weather.

GARDENIA

Gardenias represent in the Chinese tradition, feminine grace. Give these fragrant flowers to your mother, sister, aunt or grandmother.
