Kids often moan and groan when adults tell them things that are for their own good. But parents know that there are certain fundamentals in life that exist within the confines of certain rules. I am convinced that a good majority of adults in this country would be better served in life, if they continued to follow these rules that were provided to them as children.

Think back to your grade school days, and you will probably remember some of the most uncomplicated "rules" you could ever think of. These little morsels of advice probably escaped you as a child. As a grown-up, you have probably abandoned quite a few of them. But in retrospect, it's quite easy to see just how much these words of wisdom would make a positive difference if adults still took them to heart.

"Don't Run With Scissors"

Your mother told you to stop running with those scissors in the house. The reason why is pretty obvious. Kids without sufficient motor skills are more inclined to trip, fall, and potentially stab themselves. I will admit that I have never in my existence on the Earth heard of a child who faced his/her mortality by running with scissors. In fact, the only scissors that I was able to use as a child had those lovely rounded ends.

However, if you look deeper at this household "rule", there are some things that can be revealed by reading between the lines. The concept of running with scissors denotes reckless behavior. Adults sometimes do things that they know are dangerous or harmful---simply because they can. "Running With Scissors" can almost be considered a euphemism for dealing with drugs or domestic abuse. In fact, the phrase can be used to describe any activity during which adults have potential to hurt themselves. Suffice it to say, there are many successful adults in Hollywood who should have heeded this advice a little more frequently.
